Home-made chocolate treats: for your next special occasion – or any time, really!
This post was originally published for Mother’s Day 2020, so you could make some special chocolate treats for your Mum to enjoy during the COVID lockdown.
There’s no doubt 2020 will go down as a year to remember. Since then, we’ve all had to adjust to a constantly changing new “normal.”
We’re doing a lot of things very differently these days, thanks to the ongoing global pandemic.
That includes how we celebrate birthdays, special occasions and other important events like Mother’s Day, Easter and Christmas.
The recipes in this post are perfect to make for any occasion that calls for chocolatey treats. Everyone will love them, and your health-conscious friends & family can feel good about eating them, because they’re made with simple ingredients – no added nasties.
If you’re working from home, or in isolation for the umpteenth time, you’ll find these recipes are the perfect treats to snack on, with a healthy twist.
All of the recipes are made with good, wholesome ingredients, and are easy to make. Just be sure to allow plenty of time for freezing or refrigerating.

Healthy chocolate treats to make: let’s get into the recipes!
EASY CHOCOLATE TRUFFLES
I’m gonna start with these rich, creamy chocolate truffles. They’re easier to make than you might think, and you can leave them plain and simple, or add your favourite flavour.
I think they look really impressive too, especially if you wrap them in some pretty coloured tissue paper and pop them into a special little gift box or bag.
CHOCOLATE CAKE MUFFINS
Chocolate muffins are always a lovely indulgence, especially for breakfast. The best thing about these is that they’re a lot healthier than regular chocolate muffins.
So bake a fresh batch as part of your Sunday meal prep and spoil yourself with a chocolatey breakfast or brunch. Then freeze the rest to grab and go throughout the week.
JAFFA BLISS BALLS
Are you a chocolate-orange fan? These yummy bliss balls were inspired by a smoothie recipe that one of my Facebook group members shared during a brekkie challenge.
These are especially for the healthy snack lovers. They’re also great as a pre-workout breakfast.
CHOC VANILLA BLISS BALLS
While we’re on the subject of bliss balls, I had to include these choc-vanilla bliss balls.
These classics are perfect for healthy snacks any time of day, especially when you need something wholesome and quick before or after a workout.
PISTACHIO & GOJI BERRY CHOCOLATE LOG
This one is for all of the dark chocolate lovers, and it’s fun to make.
The basic chocolate mix is really simple, with just 3 ingredients. Pour the mixture into a loaf tin, sprinkle over the nuts & berries and push them into the chocolate.
After the log has frozen, this chocolate is still fudgey soft and it has a creaminess that will surprise you.
HOME-MADE CHOCOLATES
These home-made chocolates are great to have on hand for those times when you’re really craving a chocolate treat.
Quick and easy to make, even if you don’t have any chocolate moulds – just use an ice cube tray.
The basic mix is just 3 ingredients, and then add in your favourite fillings, or whatever you have in the pantry: nuts, dried fruits, coconut, etc.
NO-BAKE CHOCOLATE STRAWBERRY SLICE
This chocolate strawberry slice doesn’t need to be baked, just make sure you allow enough time for it to set in the freezer.
Make the base first and mix up the chocolate mixture while the base is freezing. Then pop the whole thing back in the freezer again for 2-3 hours.
Top it with some fresh strawberry slices, and you’ve got an impressive looking, healthy dessert.
BONUS: CHOCOLATE DIPPED STRAWBERRIES
I do have one last little indulgent chocolate treat suggestion for you, and you don’t need a recipe for this one: chocolate-dipped strawberries.
Combining chocolate and strawberries is always a great idea. Give a bottle of bubbly to go with them, and then have a little picnic at home in the back garden!
